LIVE LOCAL IN THE SUNSHINE STATE (PT. 02)

Last week on the mom wife foodie podcast  we chatted about living local and embracing each community you live in, or visit, to the fullest. This week I am excited to share this incredible location we have been visiting for years. It wasn’t until we sat down with Caryn from Beach House that I truly got to understand all the different ways Chiles Group Restaurants embraces the island life, locals and the environment that surrounds them!

Beach House has a dream location. Right on the ocean front with indoor/outdoor seating. They’ve just recently renovated their entire patio area making it so much more enjoyable with an outdoor bar, retractable ceiling vents (for the rain), misters and remote based window covering to keep everyone dry or shaded while enjoying the outdoor setting!  Wanting to enjoy all the goodness of island life we opted for outdoor seating in June in Florida…bring on the heat! But honestly with the fans, misters and the ocean breeze, not to mention we were in shade and it was really comfortable!

Before jumping into what we ate I wanted to share a little bit about how Ed (the owner of Chiles Group Restaurants) truly has embraced living local within each of his three restaurants. Here’s a few ways they do: all bread is made in house, clams are local and recycled, Florida has a Wild Boar issue so to help out it’s now on the menu (& it’s worth trying), Mullet Fish is a local fish that can be found relatively easy and tastes delicious, and they also own two local farms and sourced as much of the menu as possible. They’ve also decided to no longer serve straws with water unless requested and the straws they do use are environmentally friendly. Being on the beach they are extra aware of the impact straws have to beach life and want to limit the exposure to them!
